This isn't the first time the label has released a double-disc set by the Meters. Rhino previously released "Funkify Your Life: The Meters Anthology" in 1995, featuring forty-three songs. Fast forward to 2016, and Real Gone Music has also released a double-disc set, "Message from the Meters." It features the complete collection of Josie, Reprise, and Warner Bros. singles from 1968 to 1977. The current Real Gone box contains forty songs that were originally released on seven-inch vinyl at forty-five rpm, so the tracks are slightly shorter than some of the Rhino version. Plus, the first disc of the Real Gone set is entirely monophonic—twenty-two tracks from the Josie label, arranged chronologically from 1968 to 1971. Disc two features eighteen tunes culled from the Reprise and Warner Brothers vaults (again in chronological order) from 1972-1977; all presented in stereo. - Bob Putignano
