Hot Rocks 1964–1971 is a compilation album by The Rolling Stones, released by London Records in December 1971. It became the best-selling release of the Rolling Stones' career and a cult and popular retrospective of their work. The album includes a mixture of hit singles (such as "Jumpin' Jack Flash"), B-sides (such as "Play with Fire"), and album cuts (such as "Under My Thumb" and "Gimme Shelter," the latter of which became one of the Rolling Stones' most popular and highly regarded songs). The album cover features five nested silhouette profiles of the band members, taken by rock photographer Ron Raffaelli in 1969. A 1968 photograph of the band at Swarkstone Hall, taken by Michael Joseph, appears on the back cover of the vinyl release. This album is the best-selling of the numerous Decca/ABKCO releases issued after the Rolling Stones lost control of their pre-1971 catalog to their former manager, Allen Klein. As with all such releases, the Stones had no control over the composition or release of this compilation.
ABKCO/The Rolling Stones have released "Hot Rocks" as a mini LP SHM-CD reissue, exclusive to Japan and worldwide. Remastered by Bob Ludwig, the mini LP artwork closely replicates the design of the 2021 US/European vinyl release. Included is an Obi-tape replica of the first Japanese vinyl pressing. Also included are two inner sleeves, recreating the design of the catalog insert and the company-branded sleeve that came with the original vinyl. The release also includes two embossed lithographs featuring photographs of Michael Joseph. The release also includes lyrics and a description
